SPRING NEWSLETTER APRIL 2021

# # ## #

You haven’t heard from me for a long time. Now I am back in circulation I hope to resume more regular communications with you again. I have missed this terribly and I have missed seeing you . At our book choosing meeting last week we had a good chat afterwards and I realised how much I have missed our chats and friendly cups of tea ! I shall do a couple of mannings in July before the summer break and look forward to seeing you very much.

I am slowly recovering from my ordeal last year and my near death experience (you will have been told about this I think). I still have quite a long way  to go (lots of rehab) I will get there. I would like to thank the board and especially Mike for holding the fort during my absence.  We would never have managed without their dedication.

You will have heard that there will be some changes in the library ; the book sale room is going to become a meeting room & the book sale books will go on new shelves in the main library.

There are also going to be some changes in the statutes.

You will find below the list of new books which should arrive in the library quite soon. We shall be monitoring the books to see how often they go out so that we can change our approach if necessary. We are happy to accept suggestion for our purchases but remember, they should be suggested with the readership in mind and not necessarily personal choices.

I remind  you of the email address of Kath Claringbull who will be collating the suggestions :

kath1977@gmail.com

I wish you all a VERY HAPPY EASTER

Very best wishes

Vicki  (your chairperson)

NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2021

First of all, a Happy New Year to you all. May 2021 be better than 2020

GOOD NEWS  😀

We held a Board Meeting last week & it was decided to reduce fees for 2021 to compensate for the 2020 lockdowns & eventual ones this year. If you have already paid your 30 euros, send a message to Mike Davison at mikedavison.fr@gmail.com  & he will refund you.  If you haven’t paid yet, send a cheque for 15 euros  (20 family) to Mike Davison  13 rue de la Paix 34130 St Aunès.

BAD NEWS   🥺

A nasty surprise when I went into the library last week, there was a pool of water down at the far end & some ceiling panels were drenched. I have contacted the insurance company & hopefully, the problem will be solved & they will put the damage back to rights. This will not prevent the Wednesday 13th opening

YOUR INPUT

We are wondering about increasing opening hours (an extra half day a week) If you think this is a good idea, send an email to foal34@gmail.com  with suggestions

We would also like you to suggest activities that you would participate in at FOAL. We are buying shelves for the Book Sale room so it will be easier to hold meetings or activites there.

NEW BOOKS

The new books will be in the library for 13th January. List attached

FOAL AGM June 2019

The AGM went off successfully, Foal's financial situation is healthy, what we really need to do is recruit more members. We shall address this question in the autumn. The AGM was held at our friend Anne-Marie's & we had a great lunch party afterwards, sitting at tables under the trees  overlooking the swimming pool. The food was , as usual, delicious we have some really good cooks among our members. We were lucky the heatwave hadn't started.
Here are some photos

SPRING NEWSLETTER 2019

You will have seen the new books in the library, you will also find the relevant book reviews in a file on the new book shelf. We will be ordering more new books for the summer. The updated catalogue will soon be online on our Facebook page & in the  blog.

AGM & PARTY  ##

This will take place on Saturday 22nd June . Our friend Anne-Marie has very kindly offered to hold the party in her garden again (she lives in Les Aubes, directions nearer the time). After a brief AGM we get down to the serious businss of the day. FOAL provides the drinks & participants bring along the food which is usually delicious & plentiful (organisation nearer the time). Put this date in your diaries. You can also bring along your swimsuits.

MEMBERSHIP

We have lost a few members this year. Foal members need to be ambassadors for the library. Please take flyers & give them to people who might be interested. We have found it difficult to recruit new members. As you know the Antigone des Associations doesn’t yield new members & we do all we can to advertise in English publications to little avail. One of our board members, Claudine Soudais is very active with schools & teachers but not a lot of return yet.

February 2019 Newsletter

Winter is nearly over & the next newsletter will have daffodils & Easter bunnies on the top line !

 Library News

We have invested in a banner to put outside the library during opening hours. This was a great success on the first day we put it out with several people coming in & one person  bought quite a lot of books from the Book Sale. (if you have books in good condition, do send us a list, we can either add them to the collection or put them in the Book Sale)  foal34@gmail.com

Suggestion table

We have set up a suggestion table on which we put books we liked. We have noticed that you tend to go to the new books section & neglect the rest of the collection. You can all add books to the suggestion table.

New books

The new books will soon be in the library. I would like to thank the volunteers who cover the books & if you wish to help, send us an email. I will send out the list in a separate mail.

AGM & summer party

It’s early days but we have set a date for the AGM & party. It will take place on Saturday 22nd June. Our friend, Anne-Marie has kindly offered to hold it at hers like last year. Do put this date in your diaries.
